Jon Snow, in the face of an Alzheimer’s diagnosis, comes out of retirement for one last investigation, travelling to Zambia to uncover a mining disaster being covered up by officials
The veteran war correspondent and news anchor has been struggling for years with the diagnosis alongside his wife Precious, having decided as the vast majority of dementia sufferers do to try to hide the diagnosis. But while on holiday in Zambia, Jon hears of a virtually unreported mining disaster devastating local communities and decides a film about his Alzheimer’s diagnosis is the perfect opportunity to do what he has always done, to shine a light on injustice and hear the unheard. What begins as a lead becomes a year-long pursuit to expose how a Chinese-owned mine has decimated a community's land and water. With his wife Precious by his side, Snow pursues the story with the same tenacity that defined his decades on screen. A Last Big Story is a testament to a lifetime spent shining a spotlight on vital stories that needed to be told, and Jon’s challenge to the paralysing stigmas that surround a disease affecting millions in the UK alone.
